August 11, 2005:
The New Jazz Saxophone Quartet (NJSQ) opened the concert with compositions created during rehearsals in the spirit of collaboration and freedom. The NJSQ featured Scott Zimmer on soprano and alto saxes, Mary Petrich on alto sax, Bryon Ruth on tenor sax, and Paul Brewer on baritone sax.
Los Burros Valientes closed the evening with jazz, Latin, and hip-hop infused grooves written by Raul Yanez. Los Burros Valientes' set also featured music inspired by Yanez's recent recording date with Jimmy Smith and Joey DeFrancesco as well as the upcoming debut of his Concerto for Turntable at Carnegie Hall in October. Yanez's music is a crossing of musical genres with a focus on expression through improvisation and diversity. Los Burros Valientes features Raul Yanez on Hammond Organ, Ted Belledin on tenor sax, and Adam Clark on drums.
